On Monday, Bernat Mendy made his historic debut for Paris Saint-Germain as they took on Nice in their opening Ligue 1 fixture.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who joined the French giants from Monaco last summer for a fee believed to be around £67 million, was handed the captain's armband by Mauricio Pochettino and started at right-back alongside Presnel Kimpembe.

Mendy's debut was marred by some poor defending in the first half, with the Brazilian defender allowing Nice forward Abdennour M'Bengue to score from close range after just three minutes.

However,Football World Mendy did manage to make amends in the second period, helping PSG to a 4-1 win over the struggling Ligue 2 side.

Despite missing out on a place in the starting line-up due to injury, Mendy was given a standing ovation from the home fans as he came off the bench to celebrate the final whistle.

The match marked Mendy's first appearance since suffering a knee ligament injury while playing for Monaco against Nice in January 2018.

It is hoped that the Argentine will now go on to cement his place in the starting lineup and help PSG to secure a top-four finish this season. With the club already boasting a number of talented young defenders such as Marquinhos and Thilo Kehrer, Mendy could well be a key player for Pochettino in the coming months.
